Virginia Tech Hokies Cruise Over Huskies
The Hokies of Virginia Tech had a soft game on Saturday when they hosted unranked the Northeastern Huskies. In the preseason polls, Virginia Tech was ranked #17. They wasted no time dispatching the Huskies in this game. Just six minutes into the game the Hokies scored their first TD. It was a six yard run by Branden Ore. Two minutes later Sean Glennon threw a 54 yard pass to Josh Morgan for the second strike. It was now 14-0 and the Hokies were on their way to going 1-0 to start the season. Four minutes later the Hokies George Bell ran into the end zone from a yard out to give them a commanding 21-0 lead. The game was basically over at this point. Still, the Hokies added two more touchdowns and a field goal for insurance. The Northeastern Huskies did absolutely nothing on offense. They put up a big fat bagel. The Virginia Tech Hokies won 38-0. Hokies QB Sean Glennon was 15 of 18 for 222 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Aside from the one interception, he looked crisp. His Huskies counterpart, Anthony Orio, didn't look as good. He was 13 of 24 for just 103 yards. He also threw two interceptions. Both teams put up about 100 yards rushing. There were little nibbles here and there. For the Hokies, Branden Ore had 54 yards over 11 carries, but 14 yards came on one play. George Bell had 30 yards on 8 carries. 13 of those 30 yards came via a single run. On the Huskies side, Maurice Murray had 69 yards, which was the bulk of the rushing game. His longest run was 11 yards. Next up for Virginia Tech is North Carolina. They are traveling for that game. Last season the Hokies hosted this matchup and they destroyed North Carolina 30-3. There's a good chance that this year's contest will be more of the same. Hopefully North Carolina will be able to perform a little better than the Northeastern Huskies did this week. Virginia Tech doesn't have a hard schedule this season. Perhaps their toughest challenge will come on November 4 when they travel to the unfriendly confines of the Orange Bowl in Miami to challenge the Hurricanes. Last season these two met in Virginia. The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Hokies 27-7. It was one of the two only loses the Hokies had. The other was to Florida State?they are not on the Hokies schedule this season.
